Experience urban art at Cathedral Square with ReCover by Alex Spremberg.

Presented in association with Art Collective WA, ReCover is a project consisting of 360 recycled record covers ranging from the 1960s to the 1980s, integrated into works of art by Australian artist Alex Spremberg.

Find ReCover on display outside the City of Perth Library at Cathedral Square.

ReCover obliterates the meaning of a series of record covers and rearranges the original information in a way that can be related to a contemporary experience.

By separating record covers from the vinyl record, these covers have now become autonomous objects, and the images on the covers have been liberated from their previous context and transformed to invent new narratives.

The convergence of the original covers with the painted images invents a new scenario that trigger allusions and interpretations, becoming screens for psychological projections. Viewers interpret what they see through the contradictions they encounter.

At the heart of this project is the realisation that reality is not what we perceive with our senses, but is a construction that we form based on our interpretation of this information.
